Salisbury is the largest city in the state’s Eastern Shore region and is Delmarva’s economic and cultural capital. Salisbury is only 35 minutes from Ocean City, MD to the east, and the Chesapeake Bay to the west; taking advantage of life on the water. Highlighted Project

Wallops Mission Operations Command Center
Allen + Shariff provided MEP engineering design services for a 15,000 SF Mission Operations Command Center. The project consists of approximately 6,000 SF of mission control room space, 2,500 SF of data center, and 6,500 SF of support space. The project achieved LEED Silver Certification under the LEED 2009 BD&C NC rating system.

The mechanical system consists of a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system with air cooled and geothermal water cooled heat pump condensing units being utilized. A dedicated outside air roof top unit provides conditioned, ventilation air directly to the interior spaces. A central DDC building energy management control system was provided.

Plumbing systems were designed to LEED standards utilizing low flow and Energy Star compliant fixtures and equipment. Domestic hot water is generated via a heat pump water heater located in the mechanical room for further energy savings.

Fire sprinkler service is provided by a 6” incoming sprinkler service. Due to NASA standards, the entire facility is classified Ordinary Hazard Group 2 for electrical and mechanical rooms.

The electrical design included energy efficient LED interior and exterior lighting throughout the facility and on site. The facility is backed by an emergency generator that supports the entire Wallops Island Campus. A lightning protection and grounding systems with surge protection was provided for the facility. Fire alarm, security, and public address design was also included.
