Prince George’s Community College—Center for Health Studies

Allen + Shariff provided MEP, security systems design and commissioning services for the construction of this 3-story building for PGCC’s Center for Health Studies. The Center, a $23M project totaling an impressive 112,071 gross square feet,, was designed to serve health credit and noncredit programs, along with a variety of state-of-the-art program spaces – including the technology services departments, new classrooms, a lounge, surgical technology labs, office space, computer and data center, and more.

The air handling systems are variable air volume, with the units serving the classrooms and labs located in the penthouses and the units serving the offices located on the individual floors. Major equipment included two 3,000 MBH cast iron sectional boilers, and five air cooled chillers, which addressed the redundancy and back-up requirements of the project.

The Data Center and support spaces are on separate chilled water systems that are connected to an independent emergency generator. Labs are designed with patient beds/tables and headwall systems, incorporating lighting, power, air, oxygen, and vacuum, designed to simulate actual hospital level arrangements.
