Ocean Pines Police Station

Allen + Shariff provided MEP engineering services for the $1.2M renovation and expansion of the existing administrative area to include the police station. The 12,000 SF facility includes administration areas, dispatching, secure holding cells, locker rooms with shower facilities, records room, armory, 11 lavatories, and multiple offices and conference rooms.

The mechanical system design included variable refrigerant flow heat pumps with heat recovery and a dedicated outside air unit with an energy recovery wheel and exhaust system.

The plumbing design for this this project consisted of civilian style fixtures and also penal fixtures for the detainee portion of the building. Domestic, vent, and gas piping was carefully routed above the secured lay-in ceiling taking special consideration where valving and service panels were to be located. A domestic hot water maintenance loop was designed as part of the system to ensure that hot water was delivered in expeditious and energy efficient manner. Domestic hot water is produced by an efficient, condensing water heater with a 96% efficient operating capacity. Sanitary piping and fixtures considered the needs of the penal area to minimize any unforeseen maleficence that may occur within the area.
