Wor-Wic Community College Boiler Replacement

Allen + Shariff provided MEP engineering design services for the $191K boiler replacement at the Hazel Center. The 35,505 SF building is located on the campus of Wor-Wic Community College. The boiler was designed to function in concert with the existing geothermal system and tie into the existing building automation system.

The project was designed with specific phasing and pricing requirements to meet the College’s funding and operational restrictions.  The design anticipated the possibility that only one of the boilers or one of the failing pumps might be able to be replaced immediately, while maintain operation of the system.  Controls were specified to be replaced and modified as required to integrate with the College’s building automation system.  Alternate pricing was required to evaluate condensing boilers in lieu of base bid cast iron sectional boilers.  Electrical scope was limited to boiler and pump replacements.
