Atlantic General Hospital Boiler and System Upgrades

Allen + Shariff provided mechanical design services for the $494K replacement of the aging boiler system at Atlantic General Hospital.  Designs had to be structured to allow phased construction with zero downtime.  Testing of the existing systems was performed ahead of time to quantify flow rates and baseline overall system performance.  System and equipment options were evaluated and presented to facility staff for buy in prior to being incorporated into the design.  Construction proceeded throughout the COVID pandemic and was completed in fall of 2020.

The project included the following upgrades:

  • Two (2) boilers and one (1) feedwater/condensate return system.
  • Replacement of heating pumps 3 and 3A with redundant pumps and Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s), and a new differential pressure transmitter.
  • New controls serving the boilers/hot water system, temperature sensors, and wire.
