Allen + Shariff Corporation provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design engineering services for a project that involved replacing the existing equipment in Vault B of the Radiation Dept. (MHJROC) wiith a new piece of equipment that combines a Linac with a PET CT.
The new Linac is one of 3 Reflexion X1 Radiotherapy imaging systems in the United States. It is used primarily for the treatment of tumors or other targeted tissues anywhere in the body to minimize radiation required for treatment.
The mechanical design incorporated a set of pumps and a heart exchanger tied into the hospital main chilled water plant and the Reflexion X1 Linac, so that the Linac is as separated from the facility chilled water while providing manufacturers’ specified tempered water at a set flow rate. (EWT 50⁰F EWT@ 20 gpm). Electrically, the Linac and all associated equipment is on emergency power.
