UPMC McKeesport Boiler Replacement

Allen + Shariff Corporation provided the replacement of existing boilers within the McKeesport Hospital power plant. The project consisted of the replacement of two oversized boilers with three nominal 350 bHp water tube boilers. The construction took place over six different phases to allow the removal and installation of the boilers and associated deaerator, blow down tank, boiler feed pump, condensate transfer pumps, and flow meters while maintaining boiler plant operations with only one 8 hour shut down. The new boilers were correctly sized to increase plant efficiency while taking less foot print within the plant.

The existing normal/emergency electrical distribution system was extended to properly supply power to the boilers, boiler feed pumps,
and transfer pumps. The existing fluorescent lighting in the boiler house was replaced with LED lighting as an overall upgrade.
