Dahlem Garage

Allen + Shariff provided MEP/FP engineering design services for a 7-level, 280,600 square foot parking garage located at Bakery Square in Pittsburgh, PA.

Two electrical services were provided for the Dahlem Garage project. Service #1 was a 600A, 480/277V, 3-ph, 4w service which powered up the entire building including lighting, pumps, heaters, miscellaneous mechanical equipment and receptacles throughout the structure. Service #2 consisted of a 350A, 480V, 3-ph, 4w service which feeds a 225 kva transformer and 800A, 208/120V, 3ph, 4w, two section distribution panel. The second service is utilized solely to feed 24 EV chargers located on three levels. The EV chargers contributed to the LEED certification for Bakery Office Three.

A 125 kw, 480/277V generator was provided to back up the supervisory panel, elevator and lighting for the entire structure.

Lighting fixtures for the parking garage levels were wirelessly controlled. Each lighting fixture in the parking area has integral occupancy sensors to provide an unlimited and flexible programming ability to reduce energy consumption and provide personal security. Lighting levels throughout the parking levels exceed IES recommendations due to landlord security and safety requirements. Recessed staggered slot fixtures were placed along a walking bridge connecting the Dahlem garage to the existing Bakery Square garage.

Additional plumbing and fire protection systems include storm drains and piping systems; a dry manual fire protection standpipe system; and domestic cold water, hot water, vent and sanitary systems to serve restrooms and the core maintenance room.
