Chicago Public Schools – Grover Cleveland Elementary School Renovations
Allen + Shariff provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering services for the full renovation of a 4,000 SF single-story modular building at Grover Cleveland Elementary School in Chicago, IL. The project transformed four classrooms and two multi-stall restrooms with a design focus on creating healthy, comfortable learning environments for students. All new MEP systems were designed in accordance with Chicago Public Schools’ standards and requirements.
Energy-efficient, single-zone packaged vertical air conditioning units with electric resistance heating and integral energy recovery ventilators were installed to serve the classrooms and a new IT closet, ensuring consistent temperature control and occupant comfort. Rooftop-mounted exhaust fans were added to support restroom and utility/mechanical room ventilation.
Plumbing upgrades included new water closets and lavatories tied into the existing sanitary, vent, and domestic water systems. A new domestic hot water recirculation pump with return loop was modified to suit the renovated spaces.
Electrical improvements included upgrading the service to accommodate a new 125A, 240/120V, 1Ø/3W distribution panel. Renovated areas were outfitted with network LED lighting integrated with a modern lighting control system. The fire alarm system was also reconfigured to align with the updated building layout.
