Capital Area Food Bank

Allen + Shariff provided MEP engineering design and commissioning support services for the renovation and expansion of the Capital Area Food Bank’s NOVA site. The project included a new 45,000-square-foot facility designed to support the organization’s mission of food distribution and community service, while meeting modern standards for efficiency and flexibility.

The new building incorporated a 45-foot-high warehouse with rack storage, walk-in cooler and freezer units, a loading dock, and dedicated shipping and receiving areas. In addition, the expansion provided office space, a two-story parking garage, and rooftop solar panels above the upper level, enhancing sustainability and long-term energy performance. Together, these upgrades enabled the Capital Area Food Bank to significantly increase its capacity to serve the Northern Virginia community.
