Brookfield Zoo – Sandhill Crane Exhibit
This project involved the construction of a new 5,200 SF outdoor exhibit at the Brookfield Zoo, designed to house Sandhill Cranes. The exhibit includes 18-inch-deep shallow pool, two keeper vestibules with holding areas, and a trellis for visitor viewing.
Allen + Shariff Corporation provided MEP design and construction administration services focused on electrical and plumbing systems. The electrical scope included extending a new feed from a nearby building to supply general-purpose receptacle power, provisions for temporary mobile heaters to support animal care during colder seasons, and lighting for both the exhibit and surrounding pedestrian pathways and viewing areas. The plumbing scope included the design of a new supply system with multiple freeze-proof wall hydrants, backflow prevention, and a fill line for the shallow pool. The system was designed with winterization measures to protect plumbing fixtures and ensure reliable operation year-round.
