NAME: Jordan Buccelli
TITLE: Electrical Designer
OFFICE: Zelienople, PA
YEARS AT A + S: 3.5 years full time and 2 summers as an intern
Tell us a little about yourself. Family, hobbies, etc.
I grew up in Shaler Township about 15 minutes from Pittsburgh and attended Shaler Area High School. After high school, I attended the University of Dayton (Go Flyers!) and received my bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. I started interning with Allen + Shariff in 2018 during my junior summer and started working full time in January of 2021.
Outside of the office, I am someone who likes to always stay busy. I recently bought a house and moved out on my own, so I have had a lot of time to myself to do the things that I like. Some of my hobbies include going to the gym, playing hockey, and watching sports on TV. My family has owned season tickets to the Pittsburgh Penguins since 2009 so between going to games and going to the gym 6-days a week, I stay very busy. I also enjoy traveling back and forth from Cleveland to spend time with my girlfriend, Cassidy, on the weekends.
Are there any misconceptions people outside of your field have about your job title?
I think a lot of people believe the stereotype that engineers are a bunch of nerdy people who love math. While they aren’t wrong about us loving math, I think the people in our company defy this stereotype. Everyone has their own unique and fun personality that goes far beyond what outsiders envision when they think of an engineer. Since everyone in both offices I have worked in (Pittsburgh/Zelienople) has been so much fun to be around, I have been able to form bonds with a lot of them. I consider them friends now rather than just co-workers.
What project has had the most impact on your career so far and why?
The Passavant Hospital Lobby project. Although this was not my own project, it was the one that I started helping with a lot when I first started my career here. I was able to team up with Mike Mahoney and we both spent a lot of hours pushing that project to completion. It was the first project I ever saw built to completion at that point, so it has stuck with me.
What’s one thing — either industry-related or not — you learned in the last year?
I learned how to be a homeowner. I was fortunate enough to be able to move out on my own and buy a house last August. I have since learned how much work and effort it takes to upkeep a house, especially as an individual. With all the recent rain in Pittsburgh, I have been getting a lot of water in my basement that I have had to clean up and take care of. Now that the weather is nicer, I will be doing some yard work to hopefully prevent these issues in the future. Overall, it has been nice having my own space regardless of all the necessary upkeep and projects.
What is your favorite pastime?
My favorite pastimes include going to the gym and playing golf. I grew up playing sports, so I really enjoy doing anything active, especially if competition is involved. On a cloudy evening, I like to sit down and play video games with my friends as a way to catch up and talk about things that are going on in our lives.
What was the first concert you ever attended?
The first concert I ever attended was Panic at The Disco!
What location is on your travel bucket list?
I would either have to say going to Italy or going to the Maldives and staying in one of those huts on the water. Those are my top two that I must experience while I am still young enough to fully enjoy vacation.
