Allen & Shariff was responsible for the Design-Build Repairs for the 33,737 GSF Naval Academy Officers & Faculty Club located at the United States Naval Academy Complex in Annapolis, Maryland. We provided improved life safety, accessibility, new roof and maintenance updates in support of the U.S. Naval Academy mission.

This project repaired several deficiencies in Building 2, which houses the Naval Academy Officers & Faculty Club, Alley Restaurant, and Navy Gateway Inn & Suites (NGIS).  The project consists of: roof replacement of the slate and EPDM roofs with accompanying repairs to gutters and downspouts, repairs to address accessibility issues, repairs to address fire safety such as fire stairs to access the first floor and rating the main stair, modernization of the men’s and women’s toilet rooms on the first floor including accessibility repairs, remediation of all grease and sanitary building and branch drain lines in the lower level of the building and below the slab to include all piping out of the building to the main connection in the street, repairs to interior finishes specifically non-skid flooring in the lower kitchen, replacement of the ceiling tiles and repair or replacement of the ceiling grid system in the upper and lower kitchens, repairs to broken windows and window hardware, and hazardous materials abatement.

The Scope of Work for this project included code analysis, design, selective demolition, and construction of bathrooms, egress components, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, dumbwaiter, epoxy floor system in lower level kitchen, and inn guestroom improvements. Remove all existing interior partition walls, furring, and plumbing fixtures and connecting piping in project area. Provide new partitions, finishes, doors and frames, casework, plumbing roughing and fixtures, branch fire alarm, fire suppression system, CCTV, branch electric panels and electrical distribution, and mechanical equipment.

This project supported preserving the facility’s historical and structural integrity and correcting specific building condition deficiencies that prevented it from being in good working order for use as a restaurant, event space, and NGI&S.

Limited parking on the naval academy was a focal point, particularly for guest patrons at the officers club. Allen & Shariff addressed and solved parking concerns daily to accommodate patron needs. The facility remained open during the majority of the operation.
