Foundational Relationships: Mitchell Associates

Throughout this year, Allen & Shariff is taking the time to acknowledge and appreciate the foundational business relationships that we have developed during our first 25 years. As we pause to spend time with our valued friends and partners, we are taking the time to share a little about who they are, the work we’ve done together, and why we’re proud to know them.

Allen & Shariff’s most enduring partnerships are built on shared values, which is why our relationship with Mitchell Associates is such a strong one. Mitchell Associates is a design consultant with roots in interior architecture and graphic design that go back to 1965. Like Allen & Shariff, they have constructed their business around customer relationships, strong industry partnerships, sustainability and efficiency, and creative problem-solving that results in the highest standards of excellence.

“We’ve built a great team approach with Mitchell Associates as collectively we have worked on 20 projects for Atlantic General Hospital,” said Allen & Shariff senior vice president David Van der Vossen. “The great thing about working with them on so many projects for the same client is that we’ve grown to know them and the client so well that our workflow runs smoothly, and we can work out any issues very quickly.”

The following diverse projects are representative of the relationship we’ve built with Mitchell Associates and we look forward to adding more to this list in the future.

Atlantic General Hospital – Regional Cancer Care Center, Berlin, MD
Allen & Shariff’s Salisbury Office completed full MEP engineering design services for the new John H. “Jack” Burbage Regional Cancer Care Center. This $8.9 million project is located on the property of Atlantic General Hospital an award winning, not-for-profit hospital that opened in 1993. The 18,200 square foot, new construction cancer care center provides oncology services, chemotherapy infusion, linear accelerator for radiation treatment, mobile PET imaging trailer, CT imaging, and full laboratory and pharmacy capabilities. Allen & Shariff designed the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems to be highly efficient and serve the unique needs of the cancer center.

Atlantic General Hospital Pharmacy Renovation
Allen & Shariff have worked with Mitchell Associates on several hospital projects, and specifically for Atlantic General Hospital. In 2010, we provided full MEP engineering services to renovate an existing pharmacy at the hospital for a different use. The project involved converting the pharmacy space into a new case management office area. Allen & Shariff’s contributions included an HVAC system that modified the existing VAV box and ductwork and electrical design for interior lighting and power.

Kent General Hospital – CSB Linen Processing
Allen & Shariff completed mechanical and electrical engineering design for this recent project, which has not yet begun construction. The 2,650 square foot space is part of Bayhealth’s Kent General Hospital Central Services Building. The project is a renovation of existing storage areas for use as linen processing. Allen & Shariff evaluated the existing mechanical systems to reuse and modify supply air systems, in addition to designing new exhaust air systems with discharge located on the roof. Electrical design included lighting, power, and back boxes with conduit for IT, access control, and security. Allen & Shariff ensured that all spaces were designed to AIA FGI Guidelines for hospitals, and applicable code.
