Foundational Relationships: Becker Morgan Group

Throughout this year, Allen & Shariff is taking the time to acknowledge and appreciate the foundational business relationships that we have developed during our first 25 years. As we pause to spend time with our valued friends and partners, we are taking the time to share a little about who they are, the work we’ve done together, and why we’re proud to know them.

A full-service design firm with a holistic approach, Becker Morgan Group is the largest architectural group in Salisbury and has been a valued Allen & Shariff partner for almost 20 years. We started working with the firm in 1999, building a relationship based on our shared values of committed customer service, design excellence, and creative problem solving. From schools to condo and hotels to a wide range of other types of buildings, we’ve completed 160 projects together that exceed client expectations and meet their specific goals. We look forward to another 20 years working with this amazing firm.

“It’s just been a nonstop whirlwind of projects over the many years we’ve worked together,” said Brad Hastings, VP and principal architect with Becker Morgan. “Our relationship has developed strong ties, both professionally and personally, during that time. I think we’ve pushed each other to be better, and having worked with and for each other over the years, we have a mutual respect for what each team member brings to the table.”

Here are three projects that represent the span of our relationship – from old to new to one of our biggest successes.

Pemberton Elementary School – Salisbury, MD
One of our first projects with Becker Morgan Group was the Pemberton Elementary School, an addition and complete renovation to the existing space that encompassed a GSF of 67,500. Allen & Shariff was responsible for the MEP and IT design for 18 classrooms, a computer lab, multi-media center, and production studio as part of the addition. The renovation included eight classrooms, an administration area, gymnasium, multi-purpose room, and kitchen/serving/dining area.

Sussex Central High School – Georgetown, DE
This project, completed in 2004, was new construction of a 188,448 square foot senior high school, built to accommodate 1,500 students. Allen & Shariff provided MEP and IT engineering design for the $33 million facility, which contains administrative offices, 37 classrooms, 10 science rooms, computer rooms, a music and art suite, technology and vocational agricultural labs, media center, full kitchen and cafeteria, gymnasium, training/weight room, and a state-of-the-art theater and auditorium.  Part of the school was also designed for use as an emergency shelter.

Coastal Hospice at the Ocean – Ocean Pines, MD
Coastal Hospice at the Ocean, a $3.5 million renovation of an existing building into a residence and outreach center for Coastal Hospice & Palliative Care, is a 20,000 square foot, 3 story structure with planned additional space for four additional hospice rooms. Allen & Shariff’s Salisbury branch completed full MEP design, including a high-efficiency geothermal VRF HVAC system, unique sewage ejector plumbing, and medical gas design oxygen tank storage, piping, and alarms serving the ground floor patient rooms.
