AEC Industry in an Uptrend?

If you take a look at the Up & Down trends of the Architecture Billings Index since 1996, the downtrend that started in late 2005 appears to have been broken by the October AIA Press Release of a 52.8 score. The last time a downtrend broke to the upside was in 2004 and the uptrend continued until late 2007, this was a strong period for architects, engineering consulting, construction management, and general contractor’s. (See chart below)

This posting is just an observation of the Architecture Billings Index Up & Down Trend lines by Allen & Shariff’s Business Development Coordinator Scott Cannon. Mr. Cannon is hopeful for another boom in the AEC industry, but says the next few months ABI score’s should confirm or deny the change in trend. Architecture Billing index updates will be posted monthly at http://www.allenshariff.com/news/

As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) reflects the approximate nine to twelve month lag time between architecture billings and construction spending.
