I am originally from Buffalo, NY. I moved to Pittsburgh in September 2017, the same time I started at A+S. I am married to my wife Gretchen. I enjoy watching movies, playing golf, and hunting.
If a client project is like going to the moon, what’s your role in that mission? Are you in the space shuttle or at mission control?
I would be in Mission Control. I like to keep my feet in the ground and not in a spaceship. Being in Mission Control is where a lot of the problem solving happens which is what I like to do.
A + S is known for its long-lasting client relationships over the years. How do you think about client relationships when it comes to the day-to-day workflow?
Client relationships are most often built on a day-to-day basis. Continually showing up and being a part of a client’s team for projects is where a lot of the trust is built. Letting them know you are taking care of small tasks and items day-to-day will earn their trust and bring more confidence in you and the firm when big tasks/projects come along.
The pandemic shifted a lot of areas in the MEP space and beyond. What do you see as one or two major impacts that are changing how business and work gets done in the post-COVID era?
In the Healthcare industry we are seeing a large impact on project cost due to materials and labor which is greatly impacting our business. More clients are double and triple checking all their bids to make sure projects can be funded. This is resulting in longer project design periods. We are now having to find a balance of designing projects but also accounting for more multiple week/months pauses which we need to fill with other project design.
What is one of the most significant ways you’ve seen the landscape change since when you first began at A + S? How have you seen the firm lead into those changes?
One change I’ve seen is the increased need of analyzing existing systems and infrastructure by owners. Due to increased costs, it is now even more important for owners to understand their existing systems and infrastructure to determine where funds need to be allocated. A+S has been a vital team member for owners as our expertise in studying and analyzing all MEP related infrastructure gives owners the information they need to make an informed decision.
Which is better… Star Trek or Star Wars? (Defend your answer)
Star Wars is the answer for me. I grew up on the Star Wars prequel trilogy and would watch all the original movies with my dad and we would always go to the movies together to see any of the new movies. The Star Wars movies also has my favorite movie quote: “Use the Force, Harry” – Gandalf
