Over the last year, Allen & Shariff has taken the time to acknowledge and appreciate the foundational business relationships that we have developed during our first 25 years. As we pause to spend time with our valued friends and partners, we are taking the time to share a little about who they are, the work we’ve done together, and why we’re proud to know them.

IKM Inc. is an architecture, planning, and interior design firm that has served institutional clients for over 100 years. With a focus on human-centered design, they provide innovative architecture and design that positively impacts the world and meets the unique challenges of each client. Like Allen & Shariff, IKM places the utmost importance on relationships, connecting with the client through honesty and integrity.

Both firms value relationships not just with the client, but with employees and with the industry itself. The best firms are built on the best people, and we help all of our people to be their best through communication, education, and professional opportunities. It’s also essential to stay on the leading edge of building and design trends and technology to deliver the highest level of work and the right design solution for each project.

Here are some projects that represent Allen & Shariff and IKM’s relationship over the years.

Allegheny County Clack Health Center Lab
Allen & Shariff designed the MEP systems for this state-of-the-art, 10,000 square foot Allegheny County Health Lab. The facility contains several different labs – BSL-3 level lab, virology lab, serology lab, bacteriology lab – that presented a range of design requirements. In addition, Allen & Shariff provided MEP design for the administrative offices on the site.

Grove City College Carnegie Alumni Center
Grove City College’s Carnegie Alumni Center on their lower campus includes better welcoming reception space and more offices. The project is the capstone to the College’s $68 million Change & Commitment Capital Campaign. Allen & Shariff designed the MEP/IT engineering systems for the $6.7M project consisting of a 6,200 square foot addition and renovation to the existing 12,600 square foot historic building.

UPMC Montefiore Level 5
Allen & Shariff provided MEP, FP, and technology engineering design services for a 17,200 square foot renovation of a 22-bed Transplant Intensive Care Unit. This included preparing design modifications to the existing plumbing systems to satisfy requirements, preparing design modifications to the existing Fire Protection system and HVAC controls, and replacing clean diffusers and grilles throughout the unit. Allen & Shariff worked with maintenance to get the AHU and fans that serve the space to work properly, provided design modifications for power distribution and data, and provided lighting calculations systems design throughout the unit. Finally, Allen & Shariff located data, security, nurse call, and fire alarm systems for removal and re-installation.
